Meeting of 2002-10/04
CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS MEETING OF OCTOBER 4, 2002

Present:  Herman E. Hasenjager, Robert E. Pease, Julian E. Szarlan, Paul B. Lovell, John R. Nothe and Gaylin Bingle.

Mr. Hasenjager called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted with a motion by Mr. Szarlan and seconded by Mr. Pease.

OLD BUSINESS:

Cemetery Funds - Mr. Szarlan said he went to see the Town Accountant and received all the information regarding the cemetery funds. The interest for the Gifts and Bequest Account is still going into the Quincy Bank while the c.d.’s are in Monson Savings Bank. Everyone was handed a copy of the ledger sheets he received from Debi Mahar and he explained them as they were explained to him as to what money is going where. Everyone agreed unanimously that Mr. Szarlan did a great job investigating this.

NEW BUSINESS:

Signage – Signage for Hillcrest was discussed. Mr. Hasenjager said he would like a nice metal archway for Hillcrest. Paul stated it would have to be high enough for the vault truck to fit underneath it. Mr. Szarlan stated he saw a cemetery on Route 20 in Wilbraham that has a fancy gravestone with the name of the cemetery engraved on it that really looks nice. Paul said the name is on the wooden sign at the entrance to the cemetery that contains the rules and regulations.

Tree Trimming – Paul said there are some branches that need to be cut in Hillside. Some of these branches are low and the vault truck as well as the cemetery truck is hitting them. Other branches are higher up and are dead. Paul feels these will fall down with the weight of snow and ice if they not cut and possibly cause damage. Paul hasn’t gotten any prices yet, but feels it would cost somewhere between $200.00 and $500.00 to have the branches cut and chipped.

Mr. Pease made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Szarlan seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted,

Gaylin Bingle
Clerk
